About Gina Calocassides
Gina has nurtured a lifelong love for wildlife, in particular waterfowl and North American mammals, which she expresses through her paintings. She enjoys competing regularly in various state stamp competitions, such as the Duck Stamp in her home state of Michigan. Gina works primarily in acrylics and tends toward a classic style, favoring action of the subject and featuring the natural beauties if its habitat. Gina has also branched out into pet portraiture, and enjoys working in other media, such as pen and ink and scratchboard etching. She has a distinct and witty flair for cartooning as well, especially animals. She has previously taught art and drawing classes in a community education setting in the metro Detroit area. Gina was invited to be the featured wildlife artist at the 2015 Saginaw Waterfowl Festival.
Gina currently resides in St. Clair Shores. She has three adult children and when she is not in her studio, works as licensed Respiratory Therapist.
